Planners for the 2008 Oneida County Fair are looking for Buskers: defined as those who practice performing in public places for tips and gratuities. In other words, if you have a song to sing, a fortune to tell or any other public performance, contact Dan Kuzlik, UW-Extension agent, at 715-365-2750 and get signed up.

Oneida County social services department director Paul Spencer is the bearer of cautionary news: for the first time in five years, the department will most likely not have a surplus to return to the county coffers. (Click on Slide Show for another photo.)

Reductions in federal and state programs are beginning to affect the county's budget for social services programs. Department head Paul Spencer reports that next year will be even tighter, as funding dries up for some of the county's established programs, at a time when demand for services increases.
