LAC du FLAMBEAU -- Lac du Flambeau Water & Sewer Department Director Scott Valliere said that grants and funds totaling about $2.1 million are in the process of being secured, enabling an ongoing well and pump house upgrade project to proceed.

The $2.1 in funding comes from a combination of grants from the U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the U.S.  Dept. of Agriculture.  The grants will pay for the upgrade of two existing pump houses and five wells.

“Our water quality is above standard as is; these new wells and pump houses mean that our facilities reflect the best in reliable modern technology.”  Valliere said.

The reservation depends on two pump houses located downtown and West Old Prairie Road.   “The original pump house downtown was built in 1962 so we’ve needed a new facility for a while.” Valliere said “The next step is bidding for construction contractors.”  Plans will be advertised and bid for the remainder of project construction details.

Valliere said a completion date of August 2010 is expected
