The Children's Bike Rodeo was held last Tuesday at the YMCA of the Northwoods. The event, according to sponsor Al Jozwiak of Bikes 'n Boards, is designed to teach kids aged 5 to 12, safety skills when riding a bike, all while having fun.

Jozwiak said that about 80 kids went through a course with a variety of challenges set at different stations. If they completed the course, they were allowed to put their name in a drawing to receive a free bicycle. There were five winners. Bikes were donated by Bikes 'n Boards, Rhinelander GM Auto Center, Walmart and Pete and Jackie Cody.

The event was sponsored by the Oneida County Health Department, Oneida County Biking and Walking Trails Council, the YMCA of the Northwoods, Rhinelander Police Department, Wisconsin Department of Transportation, and Habush and Davis (donated helmets).

"This event is good for the community because it provides education and outreach for the sport at a time when kids are just learning how to ride safely," said Jozwiak.
