Out of the ten 10 players selected to the 2009-10 All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Men’s Basketball Team, UW-Whitewater senior Dustin Mitchell of Lac du Flambeau was selected Player of the Year.

He heads to the Division 3 Senior All-Star Game on March 20th in Salem, Virginia, as part of the NCAA National Championships.

The 6-9  Mitchell leads the WIAC with 8.9 rebounds per game and a .630 field goal percentage.  He started each of the 29 games of the 2009-2010 season.   This honor tops Mitchell’s fourth and final year as a WIAC Division 3 basketball player.

Mitchell, 22, has played basketball since the age of seven.  As a teenager he was an all-around athlete, excelling in football, baseball, and track as well as basketball.  He is one of the most recognized athletes in the history of Lakeland Union High School (Minocqua) sports.

Mitchell will be meeting with basketball agents in the next few months to discuss his future.

Dustin Mitchell
Dustin is a damn good player and a fine young man but he is not one of the most recognized athletes in the history of LUHS, not even close.
