At the 4th annual Scrapping and Stamping Convention, held Sept. 22 at Rhinelander High School, participants were asked to bring either canned fruit, peanut butter or whole grain cereal for the Rhinelander Area Food Pantry (RAFP).
To the happy surprise of RAFP volunteers, 867.5 pounds of food were donated. Mayor Dick Johns had the honor of drawing winning names for the many prizes given to those who brought items. In addition to food donations, the RAFP received $675 from an anonymous benefactor at the convention. This, combined with other convention participant donations, totaled $762 for the pantry.
Nosser’s Stamp and Scrap of Rhinelander hosts the convention, which this year drew more than 600 participants and vendors from 114 cities in Wisconsin (an increase of 10 new cities from 2006), 11 in Illinois, 28 in upper Michigan, as well as Minnesota, California, Georgia, Delaware and other states. In its short history, the convention has become one of the premier shows, according to vendors, many of whom debut their new merchandise for the upcoming year at this show and use it as a way to make contacts.
According to the Nosser's organizers, the Claridge Best Western courted the conventioneers, and it paid off: Nosser's will be holding a spring retreat there for its scrappers and stampers.
